Prague

In the center of Bohemia lies the city of Prague, also the capital of and largest city in the Czech Republic. Praha, as it’s known in Czech, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, and is among the most visited of European destinations.

Prague largely escaped the destructive bombs of World War II, preserving much of its remarkable architecture. It is both an historic and modern city in one. Cobblestone streets give way to numerous bridges, cathedrals and towers. Prague Castle, the world’s largest ancient castle, is perched on a hill high above the city and Church spires dot the skyline, hence Prague’s nickname, “The City of a Hundred Spires." The historic center of the city is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the more contemporary side, Prague is one of the cultural centers of Europe, and host of countless music and film festivals, writer’s festivals and even fashion shows. It’s a colorful city where music, art and fine dining abound and there is something to satisfy every type of traveler.

In January of 2007, NETC introduced Group Leaders to Prague through an International Teacher Convention.  Danajean Mabry shares her experience; click here to read her story.
