When it comes to our daily lives, we all like to avoid an illness as much as possible. Of course catching a cold can often be unavoidable, but there are common ways to help prevent illness, such as eating a balanced meal, exercising regularly, etc. Overseas, however, schedules can be a bit less routine making it harder to maintain our daily habits. Below are a few tips to help you stay healthy while traveling:
- Prior to departure: Visit your doctor for any medical or prescription needs and obtain a travel health care card in order to have health coverage while traveling overseas
- For the flight: Wash hands, bring headache and immune system supplements, and stay hydrated with water due to cabin air pressure
- Vitamins are a great way to keep your energy up during the day
- Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you in case you are unable to find a sink. Use as needed.
- Take along a small first-aid kit and medicine for upset stomachs
- If you have a food allergy, it helps to know how to tell your waiter/waitress if you are allergic to something in that country’s own language, (if not, find a way to get the phrase written down prior to your trip).
