I came across this great blog post today, by a teacher in Canada who takes the same approach to learning and education in his classroom as NETC does on all of our educational tours with our LEAP! program. He says:

"Real learning is by definition active. When learners are provided the opportunity to play an active role in their own learning, they not only tend to learn more but they also nurture a keen desire to go on learning more."

On his blog, Joe Bower shows in one particular example how challenging students to act out what they read (instead of taking a multiple choice exam), encourages them to remember and understand what they'd learned, while creating a fun and unforgettable experience for them.

Watch this video to hear one student's positive thoughts about the experience:

What methods do you use in your classroom to make your students active participants in their own learning experiences?
