NETC Educational Student Tour Photobook PRI 2011

I traveled to Europe, many years ago, after graduating from high school. That trip changed my life and opened my eyes to a larger, more diverse world. I came back with a maturity I never would have had without going on that educational tour. I am so grateful that a teacher had the gumption to take a group of high school students on a travel program. Without her we never would have traveled abroad and I will be forever grateful to her!

My son had the chance to travel to Europe with NETC this summer. He was introduced to France and Italy as he traveled on NETC’s Paris, the Riviera and Italy itinerary. I thought long and hard before spending the money to send him. It wasn’t easy, especially with college looming around the corner! However, knowing that it was such a pivotal experience in my life, we decided it was worth it for him to go on the educational tour. He thoroughly enjoyed it and is considering a “study abroad” program as a result of going on this travel program. He met some nice students on the tour and has read a number of books that one of the boys recommended. He, in turn, is sharing those recommendations with his friends. It is very much like a pebble being thrown in a pond; the ripples spread. My son is making decisions in a more mature manner, that too is spreading into our community.

I am also changed. This was another lesson for me, as an adult. When you set your mind to do something, it can be done. Focusing on what is important and making some sacrifices makes it even more worthwhile. I’m so glad we took this educational tour. This trip to Europe is a memory we will have forever!
