My latest obsession is Pinterest. What’s Pinterest you ask? It’s only one of the best things to hit the internet, in my humble opinion! When I’m not working, eating (well sometimes while I’m eating too) or sleeping, I’m pinning the latest home décor idea, delicious recipe, inspirational quote or destination I’d like to travel to next. If you haven’t heard about Pinterest, do yourself a favor and check it out. Right. Now.

NETC Educational Travel Pinterest Boards

Imagine my delight when I realized – wow Pinterest would be a great resource for teachers. So I’ve begun a Pinterest account for NETC. NETC’s Pinterest Boards already have some fun travel ideas, inspirational quotes, crafts for the classroom, educational videos and interesting lesson plans I’ve come across, but I’m constantly adding new things, so check back often, better yet, join for yourself and start following NETC’s Pinterest Boards! You'll thank me.

Here’s the basic gist of Pinterest :

  • Think of Pinterest as a virtual bookmarking site where you organize interesting ideas you find online onto a series of boards, bulletin boards if you will.

  • You can categorize these boards and “pin,” related items to your board. Pinterest has it's own "Pin It" button you can easily add to your web browser for one-click pinning!

  • You can pin anything you want that you find online and Pinterest will link it up with the original website so others can find it too. You can even snap a photo of something you like, maybe a fun project your class completed, and upload that to one of your boards as well – think of it as all of your favorite things, saved visually and easily accessible from anywhere there’s web access. So you don’t have to worry about bookmarking your favorites at school and losing access once you get home…because now they’re all in one spot!

  • You can search within Pinterest, follow other pinners, like and repin their finds, etc.

  • Once you’ve pinned something new, your pin shows up in your followers’ feed, similar to Facebook updates, so you can share your pins with your followers and the rest of the Pinterest community – alternatively, you can hide specific pins you don’t want to share.

  • There’s also a setting that allows others to pin to your board – perfect for collaborating with students and colleagues. It’s truly genius! And I think it's a wonderful tool for teachers.

Pinterest is growing exponentially, it’s quite addicting – don’t say I didn’t warn you – and it’s a great way to connect with other educators, share lesson plans, classroom photos, swap project ideas and so much more! The possibilities really are endless. Oh and if you have an iPhone, there's an app for that!

To join Pinterest, you must first be invited, so if you decide it would be a great way to visually organize ideas for your classroom, travel plans or personal interests, shoot me an email at: aeddy@educationaltravel.com and I’d be happy to invite you so you can get started pinning ASAP! And when you join, don’t forget to follow my pins as well!
